Clerical Changes
Fr Bernard Bryson
Bishop Seamus Hegarty has made clerical changes to our Diocese which sadly sees the departure of our Parish Priest, Fr Bernard Bryson. He is moving to the church of St Finlough in Ballykelly in County Derry. Our parish will miss him and all he has done for our parish community over the past 17 ½ years and our best wishes and prayers go with him.
Induction of our new Parish Priest
Fr Peter McLaughlin has been appointed as Parish Priest of St Theresa's parish and will be installed to his post by Bishop Francis Lagan at the 7.30 pm Mass in St Theresa's Church Sion Mills on Friday 27th August. (more to follow later)
Parish Hall
There is the usual full round of events taking place in our parish hall including: Irish Language Classes, Irish Dancing, Indoor Bowls, Whist, Scouts, Pipe Band Practice, Discos and Women's Group (held in Conference room). There is also provision made for other activities such as Guest Teas, Fashion Shows, Concerts etc, etc.
Luncheon Club
The Luncheon Club provides dinners in the parish hall for the senior citizens of the Sion Mills district each day from Monday - Thursday. This gives the elderly people from all sections of the community a welcome chance to get together for a meal and a chat. This is much appreciated by the elderly of the area. Transport is provided for those who wish to avail of it. Meals are also delivered to people in their homes. The number of people who avail of the Luncheon Club has doubled in the past year and everyone involved in the project is to be congratulated.
Famine Box
The Famine Box was started in our parish in 1988 and has helped numerous very worthwhile causes since then. Each month's donations are sent to different parts of the world where people are very poor. It has been very generously supported by our parishioners. This brings many blessings on our parish as does the attendance each Thursday at our adoration Chapel.
Fr Pat McCallion E-mail pmccallion@malawi.net
On Sunday 3rd November 2002 Fr Pat McCallion said the 11.00 am Mass in St. Theresa's. He was home in Ireland for a short break. He spoke of the problems that the people of Malawi were facing and he thanked our parish for our aid and prayers. Our Parish Priest, Fr Bryson also said a few words and spoke very highly of the work that Fr McCallion was doing among the starving people of Malawi. He wished Fr Pat well for his return journey to Malawi. The congregation responded with a warm round of applause.
Rosary for Peace and the Cause of the Family
The Rosary is recited every Tuesday after the 10.00am Mass and is offered for peace in the world and also for the cause of the family.
